Perfect Harmony Cultural Exchange Association was founded in 2011 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization by a group of friends trained in Cantonese opera. United by a shared passion for this treasured art form, they sought to preserve and promote Chinese cultural heritage, especially among youth and immigrants in the United States.
Since our founding, Perfect Harmony has organized performances, classes, and workshops. In 2012, we launched a program teaching local children ages 5 to 18 in the Los Angeles area the fundamentals of Cantonese opera singing and movement. Each year, we host free performances featuring our young performers to showcase their talents.
Beyond the stage, Perfect Harmony brings joy to the community through involvement in local events, visits to convalescent homes, and participation in cultural festivals. We are also proud of our long-standing partnership with Sing Fai Cantonese Opera Association, which has included performance exchanges that bring their artists to the U.S. and send our young performers to Hong Kong.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic and the return of our founding members to Asia, leadership of Perfect Harmony has passed to a new generation: our former students, now young adults. As American-born Chinese (ABCs), we are proud to carry forward the mission of reconnecting with Chinese opera and sharping it with both the diaspora and wider audiences.
Today, we continue to hold workshops and performances with the goal of educating and inspiring future generations. Our work is made possible by the generous support of donors, sponsors, and community fundraising efforts.
Perfect Harmony’s mission is to preserve and promote Cantonese Opera, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, through education, performance, and community engagement. We strive to foster appreciation for this traditional art form and ensure its continued relevance for future generations across the world.
